What to Expect on Sunday Morning

- In the Nursery -

Birth through 36 months

Northwood’s Church Nursery – Christ, Care and Comfort is the theme in the nursery. For our youngest friends; newborn through 3 –years-old, it is a safe, place to play, sleep or interact. Our loving, caregivers all have a heart for Jesus. All paid staff on duty has undergone a criminal background check.

What To Bring

Your child’s diaper bag should include the following items:

1.    Two or three disposable diapers.  No cloth diapers, please.

2.    Pacifier or other items, should your child need it for security.

3.    A complete change of clothes.

4.    A bottle of milk, formula, juice or water. (This is a good practice even for mothers who nurse.)

Please label all personal items with your child’s first and last name before arriving at church.  This helps us keep track of your child’s items.

Your Child’s Health  -  We operate a well-baby program.  For the protection of all the children in our ministry we cannot accept a child with a runny nose, fever, rash, persistent cough, diarrhea, or any other signs of illness.  We request that you not place your child in our program while they are at risk of exposing other children.  Thank you in advance for keeping our children’s ministry a healthy place for everyone.

When You Arrive  -  A caregiver will meet you at the check-in counter to receive your child and any other necessary items.  Please check in and note any information that will help in caring for your child, such as feeding times, sleeping times, allergies and special needs.

At the time of check-in, a teacher will attach a number tag to your child’s back.  You will be given an identical number.  If you are needed during the service, your child’s number will be flashed on the two LED screens in the sanctuary.  We ask that you present your matching number to the caregiver in order to have your child released to you. A child will not be released to a parent without presentation of the assigned number.

Snacks  -  Snacks are provided for the toddlers.  The items consist of water to drink and Cheerios, vanilla wafers, or graham crackers to eat.  If your child has an allergy, please inform the teacher when you check-in.

Curriculum  -  We believe even our littlest ones can learn!  Regular learning experiences are planned and lessons reinforced with songs, play and supervised activities designed with the ability of the children in mind.

During the 9:45 a.m. Worship Service there is a Sunday school class for the two and three year olds.  Our Nursery Sunday school class may visit the playground weather permitting.  Please send a jacket or sweater with your child during cooler weather.

Saying Good-Bye  -  After you have completed the check-in procedure, simply wave a quick good-bye and leave for the worship service.  As you know, it is normal for little ones to cry when leaving a parent.  This does not last long, and separation becomes easier over time.  Our caregivers will immediately try to create interest in a toy or activity and give assurance that you will return after the worship service is completed.  If your child continues to cry for an extended time of 10 minutes, we will page you.

Checking On Your Child  -  Feel free to check on your little one at any time during the worship service.  However, we do ask that you do so discreetly, trying not to let your child see you.

Pick-Up Procedure  -  Your child’s caregiver will expect the same person to drop-off and pick-up the child.  Unless special  instructions are given at check-in.  Please make sure that all of your child’s personal items have been returned to you before you leave the premises.  Lost and found items will be retained for a short time. Items not claimed after one month are donated to a charitable organization.

Nursing Mothers  -  There is an area in the nursery designed for privacy during feeding times.  Or, you may ask an usher to direct you to the family room where you may also tend to your infants’ need.
