World Outreach I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me. - Matthew 25:40 Eighteen percent of our contributions are budgeted to mission outreach, both globally and locally. The World Outreach team meets regularly to discuss ways to create awareness within the congregation of our outreach efforts and make decisions on support levels. Last fiscal year (2007-2008) Northwood gave $79,000 through World Outreach to support missions here in our community as well at nationally and internationally. Our gifts and tithes represent the heart and hands of Jesus healing a hurting world. Lives are changed; people are fed, clothed, housed and visited because we say "yes" to Christ and back it up with dollars. Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee, and development ministry fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) responding on behalf of congregations and individuals of the church. To make a donation send a check to the address below, visit the website and donate online or put a check in the collection plate, made out to Northwood, with Week of Compassion on the memo line. Northwood World Outreach Goals World Outreach Team: Leone Miller, chair, Barry Bettis, Brad Childs, Jeannine Mart, Dennis Page, Emily Sachs and Dick Sweeney The World Outreach team identified as their mission, the following areas of function.
Creating and maintaining awareness of our outreach efforts. It is important to keep everyone in the congregation informed about what Northwood supports through world outreach. Our efforts include information in the Sunday bulletin, monthly newsletter, World Outreach bulletin board in the education wing, Sunday power point, the church website and, on occasion, classes offered at GOLF.
How to distribute funds as well as which outreach ministries to support are key decisions on an annual basis. The team decides the annual percentage of the contributions that go to outreach and the distribution of funds within that percentage. It is an important and meaningful part of our work as members of the world outreach team.
The world outreach team serves as a bridge between each of the ministry groups and the church. The team views it as a responsibility to communicate important happenings/accomplishments/needs by each of our ministry partners to the church as a whole.
Mission Scholarship requests by church members are fielded by world outreach. This fund provides support for the annual Mission to Mexico trip each year. In addition, members of the Northwood congregation may apply to receive partial funding for individual mission trips. Mission application can be found here. |
